Considering becomming a ham radio user
Have you ever considered becoming an amateur radio operator often referred to as ham radio operator. The number of amateur radio enthusiasts is growing all over the globe with more than two million already out there.
However it is not as simple as you may first think, it is not as easy as visiting your local mall and purchasing a ready made amateur radio kit. Granted there are commercial kits out there but most ham radio operators have individual units that make up there rig, from antenna tuners.
One thing that you must remember if you are considering the possibilities of becoming an amateur radio operator is that there are rules and instructions that need to be adhered to, for example there is an amateur radio licence that needs to be obtained and you need to pass an exam, that’s right you need to put some time into studying if it’s new to you.
Benefits of amateur radio depend on your circumstances but amateur radio operators have the ability to speak to people all over the globe, it also offers an alternative means of communication in areas that may not offer the communications network we all see every day in build up areas such as cities.
This could prove invaluable in an emergency situation. One thing to remember is that although I mentioned earlier that many users speak to each other all over the world which tends to show how the technology has moved on over the years it works just as well being used from one side of the city to the other it does not necessarily have to be used for communications over huge distances although it nice to know that the technology has reached these capabilities. Gaining experience in the amateur radio field will come with time but the ham radio community always appear to be willing to help those new to amateur radio.
The type of people I have come across that use this type of equipment and down to earth people, even though the kit is of a technical capacity that matches computer systems today in some ways the individuals using it are not the computer type geeks that you would expect. You may wonder why I mention computers, well lets think about it computers are now mostly connected to what we would refer to as the world wide web.
They are basically connected to a network of other computers and offer alternative means of communication. Ham radio operators actually offer a similar service but on a far more personal basis. Becoming a ham radio operator is well worth consideration and should not be pushed to the side by reading this article shows that you are already considering the possibilities.
Good luck with whatever choices you make.
